Kate Winslet and Her First Oscar for The Reader

At the 2008 Academic Awards ceremony, The Reader directored by Stephen Daldry was nominated as the Best Picture but failed. The story is about a young German teenager Michael Berg (Ralph Fiennes and David Kross) and his complex relationship with an illiterate ex-Nazi concentration camp guard/train conductor Hanna Schmitz (Kate Winslet) in the 50's, plus his relation with her past decades, based upon Bernhard Schlink's controversial and best-selling 1995 novel.

The Reader had 5 nominations and 1 win in the Best Actress nomination. The Best Actress nominees became two repeatedly nominated Oscar favorites - Kate Winslet and Meryl Streep, with the first winning her first Academic Award.
Kate Winslet, a 33 year-old British actress, has already 6th nomination, and this one was her fourth Best Actress nomination and at last the first win! Her heroine was Hanna Schmitz, an illiterate ex-Nazi concentration camp guard/train conductor who had a love affair with a 15-year old boy. Kate Winslet was already nominated as the Best Actress for Titanic, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind plus Little Children, as well as the Supporting Actress for Sense and Sensibility and Iris.
When I decided to write essay, I've found out that with her 6th nomination, the actress became the youngest person (at age 33) who has 6 Oscar nominations. Winslet was only a year younger than Bette Davis, an actress who (at age 34) got her 6th for Now, Voyager. You also can include this information in your term paper writing.
